Little guy came 4 weeks early
I went to my 36 week appointment New Year's Eve at 1pm. Didn't get an internal since baby was still high, no feelings of any labor going on. I was written out of work for my last 4 weeks due to severe swelling and not able to keep my legs elevated while at work. That night New Year's Eve, I was supposed to work 4pm-4 am but was written out starting immediately. So I went home, elevated my legs and prepared for an evening with just hubby and I. At around 8 pm that same night I stood up from the couch and my water broke. It wouldn't stop. I then began feeling what period cramps felt like. I called my doctors office and was told to go to the hospital. My contractions were lasting 30 seconds and we 3 minutes apart while on the way to the hospital. We were triaged at 9:15 and I was measuring at 1cm, and we and got into our room where we stay and deliver and recover. My contractions were consistent at 2 mins apart lasting 30 seconds. Due to being on blood thinners for a clotting disorder, I couldn't have any pain medication until my blood lab work came back. My contractions intensified quickly, and just before midnight I was checked and was measuring 3-4 cm. (our last picture of just the 2 of us at midnight! Smiling between contractions) the pain was intense from contractions and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I was able to finally get a epidural at 2 am, and I was measuring at 6cm. The epidural was both wonderful (I could relax!) and scary (couldn't feel ANYTHING or move my legs). Baby's heart rate kept dropping, and at 4 am 10 people rushed into the room bc the heart rate didn't go back up. I was checked, was fully dilated and was told we had to get him out fast. I couldn't feel my legs still from the epidural but pushed every time the midwife and nurses said to. If took 4 rounds of 4, 10 counts and I felt the pressure of the baby come out. Owen Ryan was born 1/1/16 at 36 weeks 1 day weighing in at 5 lbs 1 oz and 17" long. He is small but perfect.
