Rice cereal? In laws

My in laws are insisting that I start giving my baby girl rice . I am Only BF and she just started to get assisted sitters foods stage one . My pediatrician said she doesn't need any of it she gaining slow and a bit on the petite side but that's just her he's not concerned. She is almost five months and 12 pounds . My in laws don't really believe in BF they don't think it's enough for the baby! Now I dunno what to do any advice ?

Breast milk is the only nutrition she needs! Rice has seriously nothing in it, just filler! Stay strong! Thank them for being interested in her life but you're doing what works and is best for your baby. Also, if baby is having enough wet and dirty diapers, and gaining fine, you're doing great and no need to supplement!

If it's easier tell them the doctor said no. My pediatrician said we can use him as an excuse anytime we want.

My parents generation seemed to be 3months breast then formula and food!

My girl is EBF she will be 6
Months on Feb. 4! I did start her on a quinoa cereal! I used this because it is a seed packed with protein and her body will digest it similar to how she digests the breast milk! I only give her a tsp every night! She is also very petite and is 11 pounds at 5 months but she started out three weeks early and only weighed 5.8! Good luck do t let others especiallynthosebwho are not supportive of breast feeding dictate how and what you feed your baby! Good luck momma!

Same here. I tried it for a few days since my husband was pushing it. She was constipated and miserable so we stopped. His mom said 'oh good then she's done breastfeeding!' Um no. I wish so many people weren't against my decision to. They think it she eats solids they can take her for long periods of time. The pedi said we could try but she's on the young side almost 5 months). We will try again in a few weeks I think

Recommendations have changed so much since they raised kids so they don't know any better. Do what works best for you and you are comfortable with. Your the mom.

I didn't want to give rice cereal bc we are grain free eaters but around 4 mos my little was showing signs of being ready for first foods. I EBF so I asked my peds what to do and if it was time. She recommended that if I was going to start food to o with sweet potato, avocado and/or banana. The fun thing is that they can only tolerate about a teaspoon worth of food at any time and won't take it all in in one sitting. So like someone said, it's only a filler. My mom and MIL were asking when I'd be giving my lo a bottle mixed w/ cereal. Things have progressed and a lot of older parents are used to "I did it and my baby was fine. It'll be okay for you too" mentality. I majored in nutrition so I like to also comeback e: the subject of increased allergies in children. Usually shuts them right up!

Stick to your guns. You have a pediatrician that had been to school for YEARS, they are not educated in this field. There's nothing scientifically wrong with rice cereal but that's a choice between you and your doc.
