Midwife vs OB?

What are your thoughts on midwives vs OBGYNs?

I'm having the same debate right now. This is our second and I used an OB for my first. She was basically there to catch the baby.I'm looking for a more personalized experience this time. Our nurse midwives deliver in the hospital. So if the worst should happen I'm already there an there's plenty of doc's round for backup. I'm going for a meet and greet a week from Tues with the midwives group so we will see! 😊

Midwife! I had an OB the first time around and as much as we loved her, the only time she was there was right when the baby was born and then they leave. With a midwife you have so much support, she's there every single step of the way, it's like a team. We're using midwife this time around ☺️

It's probably worth noting, to avoid confusion, that many midwives work in hospitals. I wouldn't assume somebody means home birth unless they specifically say so.

If I wasn't so in love with my ob we would probably opt for a midwife. My ob delivered my first and we had an amazing experience! I think it's all about your relationship with whoever you decide.

I haven't had a baby but from the experiences I've heard of for both options has convinced me that I want a midwife.

Also, when I miscarried a few months ago and I went to the hospital the doctor was really pompous and not very attentive, made me feel like I was stupid if I had a question or thought. When I got my blood tested a few days later at the birth center I had chosen the care was completely different. I was able to voice ideas and get answers without the negativity. I felt that both were highly qualified and knowledgeable but I would choose a midwife any day.

It depends a lot on what kind of experience you want. Also, are you referring to CNMs or homebirth midwives? If I were to birth in a hospital, I'd choose a CNM long before an OB.

I've had both. The midwife experience is really nice because they are there pretty much from the time you go to the hospital until your baby is here. I am however having an ob this time. She delivered my first 2 and she is one of a kind! I think it's personal preference though.

I wasn't real thrilled with my OB experience, so I'm working with a midwife who is in a practice with OBs this time around. Midwife is much better! More time spent with me, validates my feelings, doesn't dismiss me. It's wonderful.

Well I just met with the local midwives group affiliated with my hospital and I've decided to go ahead use a midwife for this pregnancy and probably for my gyn  care going forward! 
I'm so excited!
