Doulas! If you had a doula or have a doula what is it like?

I'm going natural assuming no complications and my nurse midwife recommended a doula when I asked if she thought I should get one. What was/is your experience!! Thanks

I loooooved having a doula. I had an unmedicated hospital birth. I learned relaxation techniques with her ahead of time and when the day came, I was so at ease with everything that I didn't even know I was in labor for half of it. She made sure I stayed relaxation, encouraged me when I needed it, and most importantly, she coached my husband as to how to help me. He was by my side the entire time. I was so zen I didn't even get mad when he kept dripping cold water on me (accidentally) and normally I have a short fuse. If you can afford it, definitely hire one. Interview a few before you decide on one (interviews should be free).

I had a doula, but my birth went haywire. She definitely earned her money though with my three day labor that ended in emergency csection 😁. I think if this is your first it's worthwhile to have one for extra support. With this baby I won't be having one though 😊
