Extra fluid found in babies kidneys

Natasha
Has anyone been told during an ultrasound that their baby has extra fluid in their kidneys? I went in for an ultrasound today at 17 weeks and the ultrasound tech noticed an enlarged bladder on my baby boy. She called in a Dr. who then took some measurements and did a more thorough ultrasound. The Dr said the extra fluid found in the kidneys could be due to a blockage and that it could be an indicator for 1. Down syndrome (which i tested for and was considered very low risk) 2. A blockage that can resolve on its own with time or 3. A blockage that will require surgery, a stent placed into the babies bladder in utero, or worst case death. The Dr. said if the kidneys aren't functioning properly, then the lungs won't develop, etc.. On the bright side, my baby has a strong heartbeat and is growing a week ahead of schedule. He does have normal amniotic fluid which the dr said the baby is peeing, just not emptying his bladder which was the concern. She also said this was very common in boys rather than in girls. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm just trying to stay positive and have faith that everything is going to be OK.
