I asked a guy out on a date

I finally asked my guy friend out a date. We been friends for years since high school but since last year we would hook up from time to time when we come home from college. We always think there is nothing serious between us since we don't even go to the same college. Since it's the new year I wanted to do something different so i asked him out on a date and he said yes but I don't know where to take him or what we should do? What do you guys think? A lot people said dinner and movie but I don't want it be too cliche. Any other idea? He's like athletic and he's very romantic.
