Toddler in delivery room????

Question

Okay I'm a little conflicted when it comes to my birth plan. I have a 4 year old and I want baby #2 to be the most positive experience for him, not feeling like he's not important anymore. I've heard of some people letting their toddler be a part of delivery and keeping them informed about EVERYTHING that happens within pregnancy like doctor appts. What does everyone else think? Anyone have experience with one or the other??? I just want my 4 year old to be happy and included!!!

I was kinda wondering the same thing cuz my parents may or may not be here in time for the baby to be born and we don't have any other family here to watch our daughter (3yr) ! And I'm so afraid I'm going to have to go through it alone cuz my husband will have to be with my daughter! If it's during the day my neighbor might be able to watch her but if it's at night then it will be my husband and I'm conflicted on whether to bring her to the hospital at night and have her and my husband wait in the waiting room ! Which my hospital has a really nice room to wait in !

I didn't. I am so glad I made that decision too. It's pretty graphic and may scare the child. I would have them wait outside with family until baby is here and the room is cleaned of the blood and such

Personally I wouldn't, I couldn't imagine my kids handling all that. My son cries if I even look upset and he's 4. It all comes down to you but in my opinion I wouldn't allow for myself that's a very "messy" experience and God forbid if something went wrong :(

My opinion. If it was me I'd let my toddler in right after the baby comes out. And introduce them. And talk to him about what happen and let him be a big help in the hospital. Make it fun and happy.

There is a book called children at birth. A good place to start if you are thinking of having older siblings there. I know my daughter will be present at our homebirth, but if she isnt interested in being in the room, i won't make her. Well have other activities planned for ger to keep her occupied and ready to celebrate becoming a big sister. Were making her a special sister basket.

I don't have experience with it but we're planning on having our 5 year old with us in delivery room.  We will have a backup family member just in case of an emergency.  I'll also be packing him a goodie bag with new things such as coloring books to keep him busy.  I can't imagine him not being with us but only you know what's best for your family or what your 4 year old can handle.
