Bleaching your hair??

Question

Everyone has told me it is fine to lighten my hair with bleach while pregnant as long as I leave it off the scalp and don't let it sit on too long. Has anyone lightened their hair while pregnant?

It's fine to dye your hair. Just make sure it's ventilated.

Yes- I'm a cosmetologyiest/ hairstylist , as long as you're  in an open area and not like in your bathroom at home you'll be fine. It's also better to do in your second trimester as well. A lot of people say don't get your hair done because it won't turn out correct- with that being said with bleaching hair, highlights and lowlights it won't effect it. If you get a perm it could make the perm not hold, or make the curles turn out weird. A lot of times in the first trimester girls will blame a miscarriage on getting there hair done, when in all reality it has nothing to do with the fact you got your hair done. A lot of people women aren't comfortable the first trimester, maybe different body changes, hair doesn't straighten like always, or make up doesn't go on right so usually by second trimester you'll feel better about yourself, have more energy, and want to start fixing yourself up again.  You need that "you" time before the baby.

I am a stylist and am also TTC. My doctor has not told me I cannot work while pregnant or trying. Do whatever you think is best for you and your child but, I think people freak out about the hair while pregnant controversry way too much.

Your hormones are constantly changing while pregnant so your hair may not take color, I have not heard anything about bleaching, but the chemicals are more harmful if you breath them in not that it touches your scalp!  I do know nothing soaks through your scalp. lol

I have personally only heard it is not good. First, they say the fumes are bad. Even if you are in a ventilated space, you were still smelling them. Second, yes they saying to stay away from the scalp..... That is because all the die or bleach has chemicals in it that is being absorbed into your skin/body/bloodstream and anything that goes into mom's body will indeed be absorbed into babies.

I've had hilites put in all through pregnancy before. It's fine.
