Do or don't: Maternity photos

Question

So I am definitely interested in doing Maternity photos, but then hesitant about spending the money. Our photographer did our announcements for free but said as long as we do the Maternity photos with him which are 300. I offered to pay for the announcements but he said it in a way I feel obligated. We love him, he is amazing. I just wanted to know your opinions arr on Maternity photos?

I say do them! I think $300 is a very fair price for a photographer, as long as they are professional quality photos.

I am getting them done because my husband and I haven't had portraits in a long time. Now, I'm not super comfortable with the whole hold your belly sensually photos. So my photographer is coming to the house and taking lifestyle photos of my husband and I getting the nursery ready, hanging out at the kitchen table, doing our thing. That way I have pictures of what my life felt like before this babe was here. I'll be having similar newborns taken as well. I can't wait.

I personally think maternity photos are creepy. Idk why and I'd never judge anyone who gets them but they're just not for me. A few friends have offered to do them in both of my pregnancies but it's not happening lol

I regretted not doing them with my first(photographer canceled last min and it was too late to book again) but did them with my 2nd. They're totally worth it but we had my MIL take the photos

I think do! I personally plan on having some done. I'm not sure about you but it's my first time so I know I want to remember everything about it belly and all. I just think they are beautiful to look at. Even with future pregnancies I would. They are great memories of you growing and carrying that little life in you. ☺

I skipped maternity photos and spent the money instead on newborn family photos, which I LOVE! He's so tiny in them, and they're so cute!!

$300 is insane and they can't hold you to anything without a contract.

I would not spend $300 for maternity photos. You can go to a portrait studio and get them done for half that price! I want to get some done as this is my first pregnancy and we are very excited, but I am going to ask my cousin to do them. She's a freelance photographer and mom, and I know she'll have some awesome ideas for different poses and moments to capture. I'll probably throw her $40 for taking the time for us, at which point she'll probably shove it back in my face, lol. Then I only have to pay for the prints. See if a family member or a friend will do them for you. :)

We want to do them, but my mom is a photographer - so it's much cheaper (free). Idk if I would spend $300, that's pretty steep, but I would still get them done. I'm 31 weeks and not even showing, so idk when we'll do them since I feel like I'll never "look pregnant". LOL

It's all about what you're comfortable with in the end.

I'm a professional photographer and I plan on hiring someone to do my maternity photos. And hopefully some boudoir ones as well just for myself. This is our first baby and it's a beautiful milestone that I would like to have photos to help remember and document.

Also, $300 is a very fair price considering that it's technically for your announcement AND maternity photos. My rate (and this is based on the market where I live) is $275, and that's just for one or the other.
