Am I being ridiculous?

Question

We are due on 1st May. I will be off work for a while and my husband is self employed so things will be tight financially. He announced yesterday that he is buying himself a road bike and this has irritated me for 3 reasons.....
1) is current bike is outside rusting in the rain (for no reason, we have lots of storage)
2) this is a lot of money to spend right before we have a baby
3) this is a hobby that basically involves going out for the day and me therefore staying home alone with baby

Am I being petty?

My husband told me his will buy a new bike this year (we have a baby due on March) and I said 'no problem, you deserve it'

What is your financial situation like? After all, he is the breadwinner and a lot of men feel if that's the case then they can pretty much do what they want. It's a weird thing but I think if it isn't going to exactly break the bank, just let him do it. This is the last thing he will buy for a while anyway. I've learned to pick my battles during my pregnancy.

My husband bought a new motorcycle the month we found out we were expecting and he regrets it so much!

My partner would never buy an expensive item without my consent. I'd just tell him no to be honest. I don't think it's being overly controlling when you're just thinking of the baby which he should be too!

He may be going through a little crisis.  Is this your first child? If it is that may have something to do with it.

I don't think you are. I think that because you're having a baby you both need to sit and talk about finances. There is no spare money to be splashing out on a new dirt bike (especially when he has one - and the way he's treated his current one) so maybe sitting down and chatting is a good idea

Mine sold his right before the baby came for all those reasons! Plus it's dangerous. He got a dirt bike a couple years later instead and has more fun doing that.
