"Cheap" or expensive breast pump?

breast pump?" /> So I've learned that as far as electric breast pumps are concerned, you can go "cheap" (under $100) or main line (around $200 and up) OR rent hospital-grade. Does it make that much a difference to go more expensive? Feel free to share your experience!

I went with a somewhat cheap pump to start with thinking it probably wouldn't matter and it would barely express any milk for me!!! So then I found out my insurance would cover a pump so I chose the Spectra S2 hospital grade and it worked so much better!! Maybe check with your insurance to see what they will cover, they covered mine completely.

In the beginning I rented a hospital pump, as the suction is beyond any pump out there (just to build up supply)... Then used my Avent double electric breast pump (works great!). I also bought a hand pump for on the go. Best hand pump out there (my opinion) is the Lansinoh!

I currently still have the Avent pump and will be using it with my second. First was born 2013 and second due in June!

This depends upon your use. Are you going to pump multiple times a day when you go back to work? Are you going to mainly pump and bottle feed breast milk? Get a good, expensive pump. It'll save you much aggregation and precious time. If you are going pump occasionally save yourself the money and get a decent one not top of the line.

It depends on what you're using the pump for. Just occasional pumping to have a little stash in the freezer, you can get a manual pump or something more inexpensive. If you're going back to work or something and will be relying on your pump to help you maintain your supply the. You need something a little more powerful. I prefer a closed system that doesn't allow moisture into the motor to cause mold growth. Spectra and Hygiea pumps are reasonably priced and are closed systems.
