Gestational Trophoblastic Disease
I posted a few days ago about how my HGC levels started to rise after my miscarriage - at my appointment today, I was tentatively diagnosed with GTD or GTN which is basically tumors, sometimes cancerous, sometimes not, caused by leftover cells in the uterus and which may spread to the lungs, gut, or brain. Most women experience this with a molar pregnancy, and have tumors in the uterus. I had a regular old miscarriage and they are not sure where my tumors are located because they could not be seen on my ultrasound.
I go to the hospital tomorrow for a battery of tests. I just wanted to post this because - after my miscarriage, I kind of blew off my follow up lab appt scheduled for a week after, because I assumed I was fine and just wanted to move on with my life. I was tired of the fuss surrounding this horrible experience. I waited a week until the OB office called me to remind me that they needed it. By this point, my HGC levels had doubled since my miscarriage.
Word to the wise; Follow up, ladies. And insist on it if your doctor doesn't. I will likely need chemotherapy now, and I wonder what would have been caught if I went in just one week earlier....
