Advice needed re: Zika virus
Hello fellow Mommas-to-be!
Not sure how much you've all heard about the Zika virus that's recently hit the news... but I am currently in quite the predicament. Puerto Rico is one of the many areas that has been flagged by Center for Disease Control as potentially dangerous for pregnant women to travel to. The virus is spread through mosquito bites; Brazil seems to be the epicenter but there has been one confirmed case in PR.
I will be 26 weeks pregnant next month when I am supposed to board a plane to Puerto Rico for my sister's wedding! (I'm the maid of honor)... I can't fathom actually staying home and missing her wedding. I spoke with another pregnant family member who is seriously considering not going. What do you all think? Should I go and take every precaution imaginable? Or miss my sister's wedding? 😓 The virus is thought to be connected to some very frightening birth defects. Thank you all for your input! First baby... nervous wreck. I will talk to my doctor at my appointment next week, but am also curious if he will feel like he has to tell me I can't go for liability purposes?
