Baby mirrors??

Question

We used mirrors in our vehicle to be able to see our babies while they were rear facing. That was when our first two kids were babies.

Now I've just been informed that they aren't safe to use... 
What's your views on them, yay or nay??

Trying to decide whether to use them or not with our twins that are coming in 2 weeks.

I just watched a news story where an aunt saw in the baby mirror that her nephew had stopped breathing while in traffic and was able to resuscitate him in time. The benefit in that situation outweighs the risk for me.

They say they're not safe because while looking back at your baby you can cause an accident.  Essentially it is a distraction and should not be used.  However with a rear facing baby glancing at every other red light to make sure they're still breathing gives mommas a peace of mind so I say to each their own.  I WILL be using one when my time comes.

IMO as long as you get shatterproof ones they are safe. I understand the projectile thing but I drove for a few weeks without one and it was too stressful not being able to see my baby.

They say that anything installed near baby (mirrors, window shades, etc) are unsafe because if there were to bean accident they could become "projectiles" and injur the baby. I'm not sure what my feelings are towards using them or not, but that's the reason they say they're unsafe.

What do they claim is the danger using mirrors for your baby?? 
I just can't see how it could harm the baby in any way...

What kind of a risk can a mirror have? I have one thats shatter proof and it's not glass but plastic. I need the mirror to see my baby and can't imagine driving without one.

Didn't know there were any risks. I think it's important to have them especially for a newborn. There has been a case when a newborn was sucking on a pacifier and the nipple part came off and the baby starting choking. Without the mirror the mom wouldn't have none to pull over or that it was happening. I'd like to hear why they Arnt safe though, I didn't know this.

I guess because of it becoming a projectile or flying object in a crash?? I just read it in a comment earlier on another post and it concerned me since I had used them with both of my Older boys when they were babies,,,
I HAD never heard of that before and will probably still use them with our twins.
