Such an Unexpected Surprise

On Tuesday January 12th at 33 weeks, I went in to the maternity unit with some abdominal pain. They hooked me up to the monitor, and saw that baby was doing well, and they figured I was just experiencing regular pain that comes along with pregnancy. The nurse decided to order a urine sample from the lab to rule out a uti. While she did that, she left the monitor on, and it just so happened that my baby's heart rate significantly dropped. It returned to normal on its own, but the nurse called the dr in anyway. They kept me overnight for observation, and released me the next morning when everything was fine. They wanted to keep monitoring me, so they scheduled me in for 2 ultrasounds a week, and 3 non-stress tests a week. That Friday I went for an ultrasound and everything was normal. Sunday January 17th the day I turned 34 weeks, they hooked me up to the monitor again, and they noticed that my baby wasn't moving as much as he should. That's when the dr told me that they have decided that they needed to get him out, and that I would be delivering within the hour via c-section. What an incredibly terrifying experience! I knew the day of his arrival was fast approaching, but we were not ready. We didn't have a choice. He needed to be delivered. We received the news shortly after 4:00, and at 5:22pm little Wyatt Lorenzo Foster was born weighing 4 lbs 05 oz. Turns out I had a really short umbilical cord and it was putting the baby in distress. Thank God for the amazing doctors who caught it, and brought my baby to me safely. He is doing extremely well now. He is breathing on his own. All he has is his feeding tube, and he's well on his way to having that removed. I'm feeling so blessed and so in love. I wouldn't have changed any of this for the world!
