Wine !!

Brittany
Ok ladies I know it's so many different opinions on drinking wine while pregnant . I was told by many not a doctor that a glass of red wine a day or occasional was ok. I'm only 11 weeks would it be harmful now more than it would if I wait till my
Second or third trimester. Opinions please?

don't get me wrong I would love me some wine but it's just safe in any amount. I bought the sparking grape juice at walmart and have some of that sometimes!

Why risk it?

I am a community support worker and I think it is absolutely not okay at any point during pregnancy to consume alcohol. I work with many clients with FASD. Some more severe than others. One of my clients mothers only drank one glass of wine through her entire pregnancy (it was on her wedding night) and her son has FASD. Is it severe? No. But it still greatly effects his life. I watch him sttuggle with emotional development every day. Some people probably can drink while pregnant and have their babies be fine, others it only takes one. There's no way of telling which boat you are on so don't risk it. And for those of you saying "I've drank this much through my pregnancy and my baby is developing fine so go ahead" shame on you. Mild FASD wouldn't even be noticeable until the child is of speaking age, maybe later. You have no idea the effects you're having on your baby so don't give other people the go ahead when you don't know that your baby hasn't already developed FASD. Only severe FASD shows in a unborn child or newborn.

First off, yes! Definitely wait. So much vital formation happens in first trimester.Secondly, there is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy. Studies have come out recently and recommend 0/alcohol. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy is the #1 cause of preventable birth defects. In the end it's up to you but make sure you get your information from a trusted medical source...

I drink the very odd glass of wine (maybe 1-2/month max) but always wait until after the first trimester is over.

My OB said it was only ok during the last week of pregnancy and only one glass.I've been drinking alcohol free wine, you can find some that actually really aren't that bad these days.

I didnt find out i was pregnant till i was already 13 weeks and i drank like a fish everynight went out to clubs smoked when got drunk ect, ones i found out i was pregnant i quite drinking smoking ect and my daughter is 19 months healthy as ever, was born 7lb and 10oz. Back in the day there was no kinda research to anything saying u cant drink this or eat that, just listen to ur instects and ur body. Every woman is different as every body and pregnancy. I personally think one glass of wine ones in a while is ok, i would sip on a glass mixed with sprite when i had a rough day to relax instead of stressing

I drank red wine at least once a week after my first trimester with my last two pregnancies. My drs said it was safe. Both my children were just fine. Your child can not get fasd from one glass of wine. Ask your dr what they think.

Oh my goodness stop spreading lies. Do you realize the human body can only process a very small amount of alcohol at a time? It has to be digested by the stomach, go into the blood stream, enter the liver, be processed by the liver, and THEN enter the placenta via umbilical. One glass = minuscule!

If I risk it I will definetly ask my doc first

I find that impossible to believe considering what my dr has told me for years.

I've drank a glass here and there. Even a beer or two. In each trimester. My baby is right on with growth. I understand being careful if you've lost before, but if we were that fragile the human race would have gone extinct a long time ago. I'll get blasted for this, but I've smoked cigarettes my whole pregnancy. All of the women in my family have. All our babies have been fine so far. Do what YOU feel most comfortable with. Take your doctors advice and listen to your own body. It's not as fragile as some make it out to be.

I didn't say she is trash, I simply said that is my automatic assumption which is totally true. When I think of a woman who openly and unapologetically smokes cigs throughout her entire pregnancy I think of a shots trash lady with 3 teeth. Sorry just being honest! We all make assumptions inside

And to the woman saying your trash! Don't act like you don't skeletons in your closet.

I'm not saying to drink your life away while Prego but really though there are 7billion people on earth Now and humans and alcohol have been around thousands Of years. I agree we aren't that fragile.
