Do you put your dogs in timeout?

I wonder if I'm the only one that put their dogs in time out. When someone rings the door bell my dogs won't hush, so I put them in the bathroom for 5 minutes. If I catch my little girl on the table she goes in the backyard  for 20min (they're indoor dogs). If they lick on my plate while I'm having dinner then they go to bed early. They're fully potty trained and sometimes one gets lazy to let me know when she need to go out so she poops where ever and she has a timeout for 40min in the backyard. Ugh that's where she is now so I made this post lol...bad little girl!

Doesn't sound like the timeouts are actually correcting the behavior if the dog continually does those things. Dogs need to be corrected INSTANTLY to make the connection of what is and isn't allowed.

We don't do timeout but I have a squirt bottle. If the dogs are being bad I just have to threaten to go get it and they immediately lay down. If you pick it up they dive behind the closest person/piece of furniture and hide.

My friends dog does that!! Mine are terrified of it!! The funniest thing is one of them LOVES to swim and get bathes, but still hates the squirt bottle!!

I tried the squirt bottle with my dog...she tries to catch the water in her mouth and thinks it is a game.

Time outs for dogs are ineffective. They need to be corrected during the act. The time it takes to put them in time out they've already forgotten what they've done. So not only does it not work to stop them from doing it in the future, it actually kinda crushes their spirits. They don't know why they are getting in trouble and to them you're just shoving them in the corner for no reason.

Spot on.

Dogs need immediate negative feedback. If you send a dog to bed early it will not make the connection that it is being sent to bed early because it did something wrong. Just that it is bed time. "After I lick her plate then it  is bed time."

My dog actually puts himself in time out. No one trained him that way, just his personality.

I will kick my beagle out of the room if she is being too ambitious with trying to get food. She gets it and waits for me to say she can come back in, no problems for quite a while after.

We don't send her to her kennel because that is her safe place. But when she is really bad, we out her in the corner. That's right, my husband trained out dog to sit with her nose in the corner when she is bad. It's pretty amazing.

I tell mine to go to her room (which is my bedroom) she is very dramatic about it. She hold her head down and tries to hide behind my husband like I cant see her crazy self back there.

Hell ya I do. They are little, dachshunds, so spanking them isn't really ideal since they have such touchy backs. And they can be little stubborn aholes so it's needed. They either get the bathroom or get locked outside for a bit. Unless it's crazy hit or cold. (Vegas)
