Period problems

I have very heavy painful periods. I have tried the pill they make me get a build up of the female hormone and causes me to bleed between periods. My problem is that i get a lot of clotting with my periods. I notice a lot when i change my tampon that i have a lot of clots not very big but very concerning has anyone else experienced this? Trying to avoid the doctor as of right now.. My medical hasn't taken affect yet through my work..
