Boyfriend Loves Me But Doesn't Trust Me?

Okay so I'm going to make this as short as I can. I am a firm believer that trust is necessary for a healthy relationship. However, due to his past, my boyfriend has trust issues... I try to tell him how important trust is to me and he says trust doesn't matter as long as he loves me. We're seniors in high school and are planning to break up before college, so he says he doesn't have to trust me if we are going to break up anyways. Am I wrong to think that trust should still be present in this relationship in order to maintain it? Why does he act as though trust isn't a part of love at all?
