I had a conversation with my best friend we're both expecting she is having her first, she said her sister told her that the amount you spend for the baby shower is the amount you should get back in gifts.  I don't agree or have I heard of such a thing.  I think if you choose to spend a lot on a shower than that's your choice but not to expect anything in return, a shower is a gathering to welcome your little one and if people get you something it's great and appreciated.  She said she has already spent $900 for the shower and I told her in my opinion that's way to much but I also understand it's her first and she's excited.  What are your opinions on this subject?
