In my opinion, if you have a family, especially children or a baby on the way, it is selfish to be in the military, unless you simply work on a base near home. Those that are being deployed are missing precious time with their children, possibly the birth of children, and accepting the possibility that they could be killed and taken away from the people who need them the most. I understand that someone has to defend our freedom etc. but I do not believe it should be those that have families that need them.
