When to get the epidural?

I hear stories of the epidural wearing off and then other stories of not getting the epidural on time, and then women can't get it because they might move because of the contraction. When is a good time to get it? I'm scared to wait too long and not be able to.  Any advice I would appreciate ladies ☺️❤️

It's funny because y goal is to wait so long they tell me it's too late and I don't get a choice anymore! Haha hoping to go natural. But I think it's between you and your dr.

When you feel like your ready ask for it. You have to be at least 3cm but no farther than 7 I believe.. at least that is how my hospital does it. With my first I asked for it at 6cm and the doc who gives it couldn't get to me before 45 mins so they put me in the tube and i went from 6-10 in 15 mins and couldn't get it. I had a bad experience  with out it. With my second I asked for it at 4 cm and got it with in half hr and my experience was so much better and enjoyable. I will be getting it as soon as they let me this time too.

I tell them that I want one but make sure I get it before it's too late...let me try to go a but of time before hand and they figure out the timing.

I got mine at 7 cm and had to push not even 20 minutes later and I ended up not feeling anything.. Had no idea I was having contractions to push. My labor progressed really fast though.  Everyone is different

Your doctor and nurse should let you know. It's really not entirely up to you when you get it.

I waited till 9cm to get mine, but that was bc I was having hand muscular spasms so severe I couldn't control my hands. My pain tolerance is also extremely high.. Labor definitely goes quicker without the epidural.

If you go into labor without your water breaking they will break it for you ask for it at that time. In my experience I didn't feel the pain of the contractions until they broke my water and as soon as I felt how strong they were I asked for it.
