Tested and its BFN

I am worried that coz I am 32 and my SO is 38 we might find it difficult! I have a son who is 10 and I got pregnant from missing my pill so it was a shock and I was very fertile then! I did expect to get caught just as quick this time and I am a little gutted that I haven't! Because I had the copper coil fertility returns straight away! My partner has no kids and has never conceived to his knowledge! How long do we need to try before maybe we should both be tested? We where only going to give it a year and if no joy I was going to go back on contraception. He doesn't want to have children over 40 as he feels like he will be to old 😕 xx
