Fluids vs. Water

I was horrible at drinking water. HORRIBLE. but only until the other week when I SWORE my baby was trying to escape from my butt at midnight did I say enough is enough and I will try and make an effort to drink more water. 
The doctor and everyone else says "oh this hurts? drink water." "cramping? drink water." 
is it that important to drink water specifically or would anything be sufficient? like Gatorade, milk, etc. 
I've been going to QT trying to drink at least 1-2 of those X-Large cups a day but I'll admit sometimes I only get about 18oz of water. I even cheated last night and made water juice lol. I used maybe 2 oz of juice and the rest water just to give it some taste. 
so tell me. 
is it that important to drink ONLY water and LOTS of it? what do you drink and how much?
