A "theme" for the baby???

Question

My sister in law asked me today what my baby's "theme" is going to be. At first I thought she meant for a shower or nursery so I just said "well we're thinking grey and coral for the nursery".
No. 
She means what theme will my child be? Like, if I said "ladybugs" that means I want her to wear exclusively ladybug shit. Have ladybugs all over her room. Nickname her Lady Bug. 
Apparently people do this?! This seems insane to me. 
I've been told repeatedly by my in-laws that it is common practice and I am actually the weird one. 
So I take to the Internet. What do you guys think?? Is giving your human child a theme for their life weird or totally normal?!

Hahaha well i think your in laws may be taking things a little to seriously!  I didnt do this with my son, but my sister did with both of her daughters. One was unicorns and the other elephant's.  And by that i mean they had a bunch of stuffed animals of a certain kind, or if she saw a coloring book she would specifically look for those kinds....the nicknames and crap? Um, no.

People do themes but lately not so much thanks to Pinterest. We did airplanes and my son is now almost two and loves airplanes for the first year every theme was am vintage airplanes his nursery his baby shower and his first bday but now we will just do whatever he likes

I never had a theme for my son, but when he hit a little over a year old he had a thing for cardboard boxes. Lol 
Idk I couldn't pick something I may not be able to stand looking at the following week.

That's a little weird with my daughter we chose minnie mouse theme so we got her stroller and car seat to be a minnie one and she also has 2 stuffed minnie toys but that's about it we never bought her any minnie clothes besides her halloween costume.
I think theme is more for like the baby shower and first birthday theme which is what ima be doing.

I know a few girls who are doing baby themes but I think that just takes all the fun out of it. What's the point?

Well we accidentally did this with our son. We fell in love with this wubby that was a monkey when we were 9 weeks pregnant and since that moment everything was monkey. Toys , clothes, etc. his nick name is chunky monkey along with X which is short for Xavier. We didn't do this "theme" on purpose. It just sort of happened. I am not a big fan of set hopes and forcing something on my child just so happily monkey fits his personality perfectly.
