Determining the Gender by 12w?

Having my Sonogram in a few days, I'll be 12w3d by then. Me and my husband are always excited to see how are baby is doing. I heard by 12w doctors can determine the gender. We definitely don't wanna know at that moment since my friends throwing us a Gender Reveal party. But we def wanna see our baby! Is this true if so, should be let the doctor know before?

Yes, they can identify whether a Y chromosome is present from your bloodwork (indicating a boy) during your 1st trimester genetic screening work up.  No Y, no penis.  I'll actually have my results next week but I'm not ready to know yet.

They can't tell from an ultrasound at 12 weeks. Usually not until 16-20 weeks. And when they do the scan when they can determine gender they will ask you if you want to know. They won't just tell you.

Maybe you mean the Harmony blood test? That looks for genetic issues but also tells the sex of the baby and is done around 12 weeks. Lots of people opt to do it. (Not me though!) :)

I was able to determine the sex of my son during an ultrasound at approximately 13-14 weeks. I spotted the "third leg" and knew exactly what it was!!

Usually you can't tell before 16 weeks. Most OB's have you do a sonogram around 19-20 weeks so they can tell for sure and not have to have you come in again in another week or two.
