Not taking anything for PCOS

Nici
I've known since I was 14 I'd have difficulty conceiving but I only found out 2 months ago that I have PCOS.
My doctor said I need to lose 3 and a half stone before she will put me on any medication. I personally don't think I need to lose that much, im only a size 14. She reffered me to slimming world, which is carb based which we should avoid. So, I'm just wondering if any of this sounds right to you guys or have I kinda just been dismissed by my doctor?

Hi. I had pcos since i was 19, i never really took anything for it. But in the last couple of years my periods got really bad, once every 2-3 months, so i went to a very good doc who gave me Metfromin but some other natural stuff as well called Myo-Sun,and then he sent me to a nutritionist as he said that is where it all starts. Pcos can be beaten by life stile and loosing the pounds. So the treatmnet started to work and im loosing weight but my periods are still bad, and not much ovulation. But defo stay away from carbs as much as u can and see a proper doc and nutritionist. U should eat a lot of fibre and seeds.

Look up PCOS Diet.. You will read that your body's needs are different than most.. I had to do a ton of research on my own after being handed some papers as guides.. I know how a sort of long list of every single thing that's approved for my body to handle.. Do I follow it 100%? No, but I do try.. Definitely get a second opinion cause she may not be aware of new research that's been uncovered in the past 5 years or so..

I think you should seek a second opinion. It seems like your doctor may not fully be able to help with the underlying cause of PCOS.

I agree that losing weight can help, but the types of foods you eat and regulating your blood sugar can help, too. If you were to do both, you'd be in better shape than using a carb-based weight loss program.

Doctor did say losing weight will help with TTC. I recently lost 25 lbs so hoping that helps.

Definitely seek a second opinion.I myself am a size 14. 13. 1/2 stone. It may be a different case for myself as I have high prolactin levels, but they have put me on medication that is also used for PCOS (which I was diagnosed with also)Nothing was mentioned about my weight. They just gave me Bromocriptine 1mg a day. I have been trying to get help for many years, and kept loosing hope. Until one day I decided IM NOT TAKING THIS ANYMORE !!! You must push and push and push until you get the answers and help that you want.Good luck x

Hi I have PCOS and am following slimming world but have adapted it to my needs- I am avoiding starchy carbs, dairy and processed sugar and choosing 'healthy' syns such as avocado, nuts and seeds. I have lost just over a stone so far and am now in normal BMI. To be honest I don't want to be put on meds- I have read several stories of women reversing PCOS symptoms (eg irregular ovulation) through diet alone. I am taking supplements- Agnus castus, inositol and prenatal vitamins.

My Doctor pretty much told me to lay off the carbs and if I want to have any starches to eat it early in the day... Those of Us with PCOS have a hard time with insulin..
