What is baby allowed to wear home from the hospital?

I recently saw on a mommy blog I follow that the owner stated she was repacking her hospital bag and baby's going home outfit because she had been told she was only allowed to put her baby in a onesie once the umbilical cord fell off. Is this true? I am pregnant with my first and have never heard of this.

That is not true. I've never heard that before. My daughter wore a dress home.

That's just misinformation.  It's your baby and if you've been cleared to be discharged then you certainly can put anything you want on your baby.  You can put anything you want on your baby the whole time even at the hospital unless the baby is under special care in the Nicu.  Bring the outfit that makes you and baby happy!!

The hospital we go to.  Asks us to leave the baby in their provided clothes until we pack up to go home then we can dress them however.  Its easier for the nurses and doctors to have the shirt top and diaper to check baby over when they pop in a million times lol

I'm going to assume that it depends on the city and state your in. Different laws, different rules. I'm in Houston, Texas. So therefore we can put our little one in anything.

That's ridiculous...I've taken home 3 so far, and was never told anything like this.  My daughter was even in the NICU for 10 days, and I was encouraged to bring my own clothes for her so she wasn't just in the hospital t-shirts they put them in.  Bring whatever you want...all my kiddos have come home in 2 peice outfits...if you're concerned about the cord rubbing, bring a onesie for underneath.

No restrictions but be mindful of the belly button and try to avoid anything that could rub on it, like the waistband of pants.
