Question about maternity leave

I was wondering if there was any type of assistance or something that women could get for maternity leave? I am a single mom who's pregnant and my job won't pay me while I'm on maternity leave and I don't make enough to save enough for my mortgage payment/bills ect... I'd use my tax return but I had car problems and now that's completely gone. I'm just wondering how other mothers (with only one income) can afford to even take a month off...
