Breastfeeding advice?

Do any of you first time moms have any helpful breast feeding advice you would like to share, or things you wished you would have known?

Whatever you do don't give up at the first sign of pain or trouble. Breastfeeding was the hardest struggle for me early on. She had a poor latch, has a lip tie...I've battled clogged ducts, mastitis, and over supply. Now at almost 9 months old she nurses like a champ and it is the most precious bond in the whole world. She doesn't drink from bottles so she relies on me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Give it at least 3 months.... After that your supply evens itself out and things should get easier. Just be as positive as you can. And remember in the end if you cant breastfeed for whatever reason that is ok to. A fed baby is a happy baby... There is no right or wrong. Good luck.

Your baby will be so tired after birth and probably won't eat very much for a couple days and may become jaundice. Don't freak out if it happens. It's so common! In a couple days your baby will wake a little more to feed and your milk will come in and your baby will eat more. Breastfeeding is hard but it gets so easy around 4-6 weeks. Talk to a lactation consultant at the hospital and don't give up. It's the most amazing bond ever! Also coconut oil works great as nipple cream!

My best advice would just be to relax & not be anxious. Being calm makes everything so much easier. It takes a while for you & baby to get used to it but it is so much easier to get through the first bit if you are relaxed.
Also don't be discouraged if you hear worrying stories, it's true some people have difficulties but the majority of people find it a lovely and rewarding thing with no issues. 
I was anxious about the baby getting enough milk the first hours & days whilst we were both getting the hang of it but the midwife reminded me how little the baby actually needs in the first days and that there is nothing to panic about.

I wish I would've know how bloody hard it is at first. Baby and mom are working together to figure things out but it can feel very defeating at first. I was bound and determined to successfully BF my son and here we are...day 9 and we are doing amazing. My mom stayed with me for ac week to help me breastfeed as well. Had it not been for her, I don't think I could've done it. She is my rock. Having support is SO important as well. Find someone you trust 1000% to help and be there for you emotionally and  physically.

Definitely be patient. When I had my daughter I was SO excited and determined to breastfeed and I was a little scared when she was finally in my arms and I couldn't get her to latch. Some babies get it a little slower, sometimes because of being sleepy if you had an epi or iv meds or sometimes they're just exhausted from the journey! Don't get discouraged though,  babies KNOW how it's their instinct they just need a little adjusting or a little time sometimes. I wouldn't offer a bottle or pacifier if you're having trouble, because it can confuse them, especially since milk comes out of a bottle a lot easier than latching and working for the beast milk.  Ask for a lactation consultant,  they're definitely helpful and good support for breastfeeding mamas.
