Is this offensive?

Well my SO aunt came to visit a couple weeks ago and we went out for dinner with the family. She asked us, "when are you gonna have some black baby's?" I'm black SO is white. I didn't know how to take it I would've preferred if she said "when are you gonna have babies"? Like why add race to it? She's like 60 something and I didn't say anything back out of respect for older people. She asked the same thing a couple years ago when she visited before. Just rubs me the wrong way. Would u find it offensive?

I think it's one of those things old people say that's borderline offensive, makes you roll your eyes and hope to god they never repeat themselves in public. You know they don't mean any harm but it's still not exactly an acceptable thing to say.

I've learned old people are raw. They will literally just say how they feel. Let's be real, those babies are gonna look black (more than likely) lol Being so blunt about the obvious makes me feel like she may accept it and is ready for it more so than being against it. I would be irritated for sure but look at the bright side, she didn't say anything really really bad.

Personally I would've found it very offensive. If my husband was black and my grandmother asked me when I'm having white babies I wouldn't have held my tongue. I would've said never and if that's a problem then feel free to exit our lives. ✋🏼

I put it to a stop as soon as it happens. I don't allow for any racist comments to be said in front of me, to me, or about me. When you do have a baby it will get worse. Just a warning. I personally don't see why people see the need to point out the color of someone's skin wow I'm white and my boyfriend is black not a big deal we are both people who put our pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. I was asked how I would explain to my daughter why I was white and her dad was black I responded I'm going to tell her God ran out  color when he made mommy and mommy is just the same as daddy just lighter.

I'm Mexican and my SO is white and with our first born literally everyone (friends and family) asks us about our "little Mexican baby" and talked about "how cute our little Mexican baby will be." I never once found it offensive. Maybe that's just me. But I don't see that as being any different than your situation.

My SO mom and sister say stuff like this sometimes, but I figure it's family so I just let it go for the most part.  My son is mixed b/w and grandma is always talking about "them crackers."  His grandmother is about 70.  She loves me, so I don't take it personally.  If it was an aquaintance I don't know how I would feel.  I have stopped his sister when she calls him "little white boy."  I don't want that name to stick and hurt his feelings when he is older.  If his aunt called your child something like that I would say to step in and protect him or her.
