Am I being petty?

Question

So this weekend we announced our pregnancy to husbands family at a big family meal. Everyone started screaming and crying and was so happy, it was great, and then my sister in law and her husband blurted out - we are pregnant too!

She is only 5 weeks and literally just found out. Am I right being peeved that they had to announce at exactly same time? I don't know why they didn't wait for a few more weeks as they've kinda ruined the surprise of their announcement too...

It's really been bugging me and I'm trying my hardest to get over it, perhaps I'm being over sensitive?

And for the rest of the night my SIL was all sulking and upset and everyone kept going over to her and fussing all night. When I asked her if she was ok she said she was fine.

Maybe they are just excited and wanted you all too share together.  They probably weren't thinking.

I think your within rights to be annoyed they stole your thunder. And at only 5 weeks they prob should of waited till at least the first scan. But rise above it and smile sweetly. I'm sure the family also saw the cheap trick for attention from you sil X

It's a really hard cat to keep in the bag.  They were probably just excited for you, and excited to have a pregnancy buddy. I would be glad to hear that someone I know is having a baby at the same time as me.  But then, I'd think it's cute for someone to propose at my wedding, too (as long as it's not in the middle of the ceremony or something). I love my family and friends, and I like sharing happy news with them.

I understand you being upset, but she can only steal your thunder if you let her.  Could you imagine being in her shoes and knowing you have a secret that your dying to tell.  Maybe she wasn't thinking and that's why she got upset.  But what if she had of been the one to announce it first? Would you have waited till a later date to share your news even though your farther along? She might have been planning to announce during dessert and in her eyes you stole her thunder?  Talk to her and let her know how you feel and allow her to express her feelings to you!  That's what sisters do, blood or not! Good luck and God bless!

I guess I just think it's a silly thing to be this mad over. A little annoyed at first? Yeah maybe. But to hold on to it? Nah. For all you know, she may have been planning to announce and you got to it first. Do you often have big family dinners or is it a once in a while thing? Just seems a little self absorbed to stay mad about something like this.

This would really bug me too. I am sure she was just excited and wasn't thinking... Maybe she was sulking because she realized her mistake. It will be fun to have little cousins together!!

That would tick me off too. Why couldn't she just let you guys have your moment? She could've had hers at a later time. Story of my life too girl. I wouldn't tell her anything about your pregnancy or plans for baby and nursery she might steal those too!

I personally wouldn't care ! She was probably living in the moment and got super excited and announced it. We announced to our families that we were pregnant with our second and my brother announced a few days later they were expecting as well. Honestly, if my sil and I announced at the same time, it so wouldn't bother me. I am so beyond excited to know my baby will have a cousin that is the same age. We both love to compare our pregnancies too, so makes us closer!! I don't think it is even worth getting mad over. Babies are complete blessings and you should be celebrating rather than being upset over it all!!

I don't believe you are. I would be upset too. I feel like it is wrong to try to take the spotlight. I know they're excited, but they should have let you and your pregnancy shine. That's just my opinion!
