Anyone experiencing hives ??

This is my second pregnancy and once a week I'll wake up with hives on me. I'm not sure what's causing it ....stress, food, etc.

Yes!!! I randomly got them on my neck when I wore my hair in a braid all on one side...so strange.

I've had them chronically since becoming pregnant due to an abnormal autoimmune reaction to the high level of hormones produced during pregnancy. Mine are really severe and quite painful though, my skin looks and feels scalded from them and they leave bruises.

Mention it to your OB, get them to check for antibodies/white blood cell count/liver/kidneys/and thyroid. That'll rule out anything serious. It's also possible that your skin is more sensitive to irritants while pregnant and things that normally don't cause you any grief may be doing it now. Try switching to hypoallergenic products and detergents for awhile to see if it helps.

Benadryl or Zyrtec will clear up any mild cases and relieve itching but check with your OB before taking anything, what's safe for one pregnancy isn't always safe for another. Epsom salt baths, baths with baking soda, or Aveeno oatmeal baths will also help relieve itchy skin. It also helps to use a good hypoallergenic moisturizer like Cetaphil twice a day, dry skin can irritate hives and make your skin even more itchy.

I've had this happen 3 x to me.  It's my first pregnancy & I've never had hives from anything before. I have to be careful of what beauty & lotions I wear cause I seem get hives with everything.
