Zyprexa withdrawal

My husband has been on zyprexa for years now. He wants to get off of it because of long term side effects. He has suffered from anxiety and depression, but nothing else, and I'm not even sure why they put him on zyprexa to begin with. Even while on the meds, he has panic attacks. Meds don't seem to help at all. Anyway, he is having withdrawal symptoms and I just want to know if there's anything I can do to help make it easier for him. I also want to understand him better. It's hard for me because I've never been through it, and I'm overwhelmed with all that's going on in my life right now. How can I help him?

“Do not stop using Zyprexa suddenly, even if you feel fine. Stopping suddenly may cause serious side effects”. I hipe he has talked to his prescribing physician.. but you hsould never abruptly stop this medication because like you said that can cause serious side effects.. he needs to wean himself from it and take a smaller dose and decrease that dose after time.. until he’s off of it.. please make sure he’s contacting his physician and they know what he’s doing.

He was weaning off of it under the guidance of a doctor. It still caused serious side effects.. so severe that he had to be on FMLA, but I am happy to report that he is now fully off of zyprexa and doing MUCH better than he was on the zyprexa.

I've never been on that medication but I had withdrawals from others and honestly they are horrible and can last for months. The best thing my SO did for me was remind me that it was the withdrawals, he never pushed me too much or too hard. Makes sure I eat and eat mostly healthy, and rubs my lower legs and feet. My withdrawals made my body ache, especially my lower legs. Most of them can cause a type of restless leg. Oh, and he reminded me to take a shower because, at times it was just that rough. But it won't last forever.

Is it withdrawals or rebound panic symptoms?  Ask him to talk to the person who started it. If your SO is ok, you could attend part of the appointment to improve your understanding of his condition, side-effects, other treatments, etc.
