When are Cervix checks done ?

FTM here and 35w6d and just wondering when your doctor started doing cervix checks? Do you have to ask if you are dialaited or effaced, or do they just tell you?

My doctor started doing that exam at 36 weeks, he had me lay back to do the exam and sometimes had to push on my stomach or have me situate myself in different ways, but he'd always tell me the progression. I never dilated, but he could feel my daughters head behind my cervix at one point and due to the fact I didn't dilate, I ended up having to be induced. Everyone is different, but your doctor will be the one to tell you your progression for dilation and all that.

My cervix was checked early around 33 weeks because I was having contractions and had to have labor stopped. I gave birth at almost 38 weeks. The Dr's told me they usually do not do cervix checks. Because it just introduces bacteria and doesn't mean too much.
