"Was it planned?"

Question

Is it just me, or is it rude when someone asks you if your pregnant was planned? We just got married in October, but we're both ready.

We announced yesterday ☺️

The first thing the midwife asked us, "are you married?" Our response, "no." Next question, "was this planned?" Our response, "yes. Does it matter?" I took her line of questioning in the same manner as you, rude and presumptuous. We are in our mid-thirties, professional, adults who did not appreciate those two questions being her first as she was walking us to the examining room. WTF?

I did this "questionaire" of sorts, yesterday with a nurse who thankfully I am related to. She sorta laughed and said that she was sorry for having to ask, but she had to. I think it mainly has to do with your situation, and how they can best help you, no matter what you choose to do. They assess your emotional state,  your financial state, bla bla bla. I guess not all pregnancies are wanted, or was planned (which may cause stress, hense she is there to offer support). So when they ask if it was planned, say a big fat smiling yes! 😊

Planned or not planned is not something you ask! Even if it's a young single mom. That's just so freaking rude.

My cousins boss asked her this in a staff meeting when she announced her first pregnancy. 😳😳 in front of a slew of other colleagues!!! They were very young but newly married, college educated, established and wanted to be young parents. I guess it just depends who is asking, but in general, no...I don't think it's an appropriate question!!

Maybe your mis interpreting the persons question. It could be that she got pregnant not planning to be, or maybe she has a small baby already and got pregnant again not planing it?. I don't know but I think people will interpret the question differently depending on their situation. People here always look for people that are going through the same situation and just need to hear some else's story.

I don't think it's rude.. I think it's more rude for them to make assumptions. I got married in July of last year and found out the September after that I was pregnant and everyone assumed my baby was an accident. I wish they would have asked if we had planned it or not instead of assuming that we didn't want our baby.

I also dislike the question, I find it to be rude and judgemental from most people :/ babies were always planned for us but we never had a time planned for them but apparently that's not right -.-

Eh, people ask me that and I've been married for 5 years, and am 28, so not young or old in terms of baby bearing years.  I don't think people mean anything by it. People just don't think before they speak.
