Thoughts?

This was posted in a group I am apart of on Facebook. This puppy was apparently stolen out of the owners car while they were shopping inside the mall. They are people upset that they left it in the car in the first place and others defending them saying it is fine because it wasn't even hot out (the day this happened it was 74° outside and very sunny). What are your thoughts? Were they wrong for leaving the dog in the car or was it okay if they weren't in there for long?

The dog definitely shouldn't have been left in the car. It because so much hotter inside of the vehicle, but that doesn't mean that someone was right by STEALING the dog. Who knows who has ahold of the poor thing now.

Someone probably stole him because she left him in the car. They were probably worried & thought "this dog deserves a better home." & honestly I dont blame them. Why the hell would she take her dog to the mall just to leave him in the car? She doesnt deserve that dog in the first place.

Stealing is bad obviously but what do you expect? This is the world we live in. People need to take steps to protect themselves from stuff like that. Hence its the fault of those who left the dog in the car. Lesson learnt hopefully.

Anyone with common sense would have felt the windows first. Window hot, too hot for dogs. That's was five different vets told us. But if I was running in the store for a minute, and left my dog in the car, he would be fine. I'd be livid if I came back and my dog was missing.

I'm more worried about the puppy's health than anything. It doesn't matter if it was 74 outside because it can easily get much hotter inside the car especially if it's sunny. I don't even let my puppy play outside for a long time during warm weather, and I don't ever plan to leave him in the car if I'm not going to have the AC on for him.

I would sympathise with the people who are probably very upset about the loss of their dog and withhold judgement about a situation I don't know anything about.

I don't see how attacking upset people is helpful or nice.

74 and sunny still means the car would heat up if the windows weren't down or the AC wasn't on, but if they were only in for a few minuets the dog would have been fine. I speak from experience because I opted to stay in the car as a child in 90+ degree heat or below 0 weather and still do if it means I don't have to go in (I'm lazy and antisocial. Bite me). There's no telling how many people have come up to the car thinking my parents left my there purposely and they "were going to help me get out". Yeah no... Dogs are also small enough to maneuver into the shaded areas too.

I have always had a fear of someone stealing pets, which people will and not always with good intentions. I leave the wondows cracked but not open enough for people to get their hands in. It's also a good idea to park under cameras if you can so if people break in you have proof you weren't in long and this person broke into your car. I would have been heart broken of someone stole my dog and probably would have not acted civilized if I found them taking her. That was my first baby and I would have skinned you for her.

I think if you take the right precautions  (all windows open an inch, cold water bowls, and temperature check) leaving them for a few minutes is ok, if you know your going to be there a few hours leave them home or with family/sitter. I'm terrified of posting a letter in the box when I can see the car because of people like this, we had over 100 dog nappings last year in my area and it seems to be starting again. I hope she gets him back and they prosecute the theif.

Considering this dogs breed, if that's the dog, it would suck because the dog is probably in worse hands now. Any dog who is stolen is often used for fight bait. But who knows. I think it's wrong he was stolen, but also wrong he was left in the car at the mall. A quick stop at a grocery store, whatever. But a mall? Bad juju.
