40 week growth scan?

How accurate are scans at 40 weeks. At 36 weeks baby measured 7 pounds. I went to a scan 40+2 and was told baby was 10 pounds. I was also told I should consider a c section. Just seems unlikely that baby grew that much. Could him being a long baby throw off the weight? 😩😩😩😭

I think I read somewhere that late term ultrasounds are around 30% accurate. They can be off by 1-2lbs. Don't think that people who are against it are telling to you go against your dr like another commenter implied, because that's a ridiculous  notion. However, doctors can only make their best educated GUESS I'm situations like this, whether they have the training or not. My personal opinion: unless there is a legit medical concern that warrants the baby being born immediately, I would at least try a vaginal birth.

If it makes you feel better my best friends sister just gave birth to a ten pound boy vaginally. She is only 21!

I was told my surrogate baby weighed 9lbs. They were right. I did have to have a c section. I think it's funny when people tell you NOT TO LISTEN TO THE DR. I'm glad u had a scheduled c section rather than an emergency . Good luck.

Don't go by scan as it is never accurate.  Don't give in to a C section because they claim baby is big.  They told my sister the baby would be 8 lbs and he was 6 lbs.

I think they can be off a pound either way. My nephew was measured about 8lbs and he came out weighing 9lbs.
