Placebo pills - yay or nay?

Question

Does anyone skip the week of placebo pills and start new pack in order to skip period? If so were there side effects? If not any particular reason? 
Trying to read up on the pros / cons of skipping the placebos and my my period.

I have. I didn't get a period, which was nice, but I didn't like feeling paranoid that I was pregnant. I like to get a period every month just so I know I'm not pregnant .
Otherwise, no side effects

I always skip the sugar pills. Still get my period though, doesn't change that.
