Going back to work?

Question

This is a screen shot of a conversation I was having with my husband about going back to work. Would love to hear others thoughts as I am still undecided.

This will most likely be my last baby. Told hubby I'm staying home! Lol. He's said great. When she's goes to school then u can go back.

I actually feel the same way. I've told my boyfriend that I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of leaving our little one while she's still so young, even if it is with a family member. If it's while we're out and away for like an hour or two or going somewhere where we absolutely can't take her, that's another story. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm not at all comfortable with the idea of leaving her just so that I can go back to work at least not until she's 3 months or so.

If you can afford to stay home stay for as long as you can. Tonight I'll be returning to work after 6 weeks. My baby was a preemie and stayed in the hospital for 10 days-that's 10 days that I didn't get to fully bond with her because I only saw her once a day for 1-3 hours max. I do not feel like I've had enough time with her during my time off, I was constantly getting phone calls related to work, FMLA and disability.. I have spoken to my manager a total of 8 times since I have been off!!!! I had quite a few appointments for myself and also some for her when she got home. I hate the way it's setup for moms to go back to work so soon. Even though FMLA allows 12 weeks my doctor would only approve 6.. And I didn't  know how to get more. Luckily I work at night so I won't miss too much in terms of her growing..and  she'll get to bond with her father more and I'll see her in the morning..Im thinking of cutting my hours though

I'd say it is up to what you feel is best.

I plan to stay home for at least the first year and then decide but I live in Canada and we get mat leave benefits for the first year... So it probably works out to the same amount of extra income we would get if we were paying for a good day home and I was working full time only this way we get to raise our child as we see fit rather than someone else raising our child...

If we can manage it both hubby and I are set on raising our child ourselves up until the first one goes to school, then our second one (we plan to start trying for #2 when #1 is a year old) might go to a day home until he/she starts school but we will see. Day homes scare the living crap out of me. I'd say stay home with baby if you can manage it financially... But it depends if retiring  early is more important to you both than watching your child's early years.
