Epidural question

I'm a FTM and have never had an epidural. Those who've had one, what does it feel like? Is it similar to being numbed by the dentist for example (obviously it's not the same, but I mean do you have that numb feeling?). I don't react well to numbing meds & they always take a very long time to wear off, so I'm curious if epidurals are similar or totally different.
