Wrong baby?

Question

My friend shared an article with me and I thought I would share it with you all. And I don't mean to scare you, but mistakes do happen even in hospitals.

When I take my tour of the maternity wing I will be asking some questions to find out their procedures on verifying babies to their mothers.

A lot of hospitals have done away with nurseries unless the baby needs something. When my son went to the nursery there was one other baby. Our hospital had the technology in our wristbands, that if I went near someone else's baby or vise versa, it would set off an alarm. Now the hospital does all the tests and baby's first bath in the room with you, so baby doesn't leave your sight

The hospital I'm delivering at doesn't have a nursery. I honestly won't be letting my son leave my site. My MIL, when she had my husband, they actually tried to bring her a baby that wasn't even the same ethnicity! The nurse handed her the baby and she was even doped up from her C-section and she goes "that's not my fucking child" and his dad was freaking out. The nurse got fired because they did an investigation and she was messed up on something

Our hospitals here have done away with nurseries for years and years now. We also have electronic bracelets and you are given a specific electronic key to even get in to the birth/family unit.

You don't really have to worry much about something like this happening anymore. Hospitals have special bracelets that match to the mother, father and baby. If the bracelets don't match up you definitely will set off an alarm and the hospital will be locked down until they figure out what's going on. The hospital I'm delivering at has already reassured us at the tour that on top of having that alarm system with the bracelets, my baby will never leave my sight unless she needs medical attention for something they can't do in the room with me. Which in that case my fiancé can follow them to watch and make sure nothing happens to our daughter.

My baby won't be away from me or my husband side our entire stay. Our husband even has private nicu rooms so they don't have to seperate the parents.

I'm completely paranoid over this-I don't let my babies leave my room without me or my mom! When my brother was born in 1989, there was another baby boy with his same first and last name. My mom has c-sections, so she didn't get to him right away. When they brought him in to her later, SHE noticed his bracelet numbers didn't match hers 😰 she wouldn't have known otherwise bc she hadn't seen him yet!

oh boo I got that down pack hell I know the feeling I trust no one especially a female nurse at all so I gonna be very strick on my delivery day only my midwife and maybe two nurses I must know their names and I must know for a fact they work there and these days the baby stats with you no nursery but anyway I'm marking my child as well I'm not playing cause if something happens to my baby everybody I allowed to be in that room nurse wise will be responsible
