IUD & period

I'm getting iud put in. I had one in after I had my son but I had complications with it so I changed birth controls. So 3 years later I wanted to try to get it again. I made a appointment for this Wednesday, but I should be getting my period the 26 or 27 and I was wondering if I can get iud put in while on my period? And what should I expect. It's been a long time and I forget what to expect.
