I suck at opk's

So, I'm doing opk's, not to necessarily get pregnant at this point, although that would be very welcomed, but so that my Obgyn can do a progesterone test a week after ovulation. Anyway, I got a digital first response test that broke, and now I got some cheap ones from Amazon, and the first one I took was invalid, because the control line didn't even appear. Seriously, why is this so annoying right now? I'm not even someone that would normally be using an opk until we had been trying for a while. Ugh sorry just had to let that out.
