My Experience at Planned Parenthood

Chelsea
BACKGROUND: Over the past few years, I have been on a roller coaster trying to find the right birth control for me. The pill is great, but due to my schedule I'm not able to be consistent with it. From there I tried the ring and then the implant (nexplannon), both of which had adverse effects on my system. Every time I tried to schedule an appointment to see a GYN the wait is anywhere from three weeks to months. (Now, I work in the medical field so I know how impacted the system is. I'm not complaining about it, but merely pointing out a flaw in the system.) I couldn't wait until July to get to get birth control, because without it my period is hell. So out of desperation I began looking at planned parenthood.

EXPERIENCE: I cannot say enough good things about my experience. I called and was able to get in a few days (not weeks or months) later and I could have walked in any day for their services. Once I was there, I was checked in and they took my medical history - some of the questions were personal. They also took the time to ask if I was in a domestic violence relationship (my SO came with me for support) and offer me assistance if I needed it, which I didn't, but I am so glad that they asked. Then I was able to speak with a provider to figure out what would be best for me (IUD) and had it put in. The NP who did the procedure was amazing and it did not hurt as much as it could have because she does it all the time. All in all, I was in and out within 30 minutes, but I never once felt rushed. They answered all of my questions and I left feeling amazed at how wonderful this place is. Planned Parenthood offers women great reproductive healthcare anytime. You can walk in for nearly anything and they are so much more than just an abortion clinic. We need more places like this that are safe for women to go to when they need it. #IStandWithPP

Note: please do not argue over abortion as that is not related and in this country it is legal.
