Who's last name should we use? Please read description first!

Question

So my boyfriend and I aren't married. We do plan to, however not for another four or five years most likely (if then, even). We're due for a baby in November. I'm very partial to my own last name, but he doesn't really care about his last name at all. I don't think I am going to change my last name when we get married.

So who's should we use? He's leaving it up to me.

My last name is my childrens middle name well at least one of their middle names! And their dads last name as their last name!! But u can also hyphenate it or even mix both ur last names together and make a unique last name for baby!! But in the end do what u feel comfortable with!!

The father and I aren't together but he is still around and supportive and I've chosen to give her my last name. It has been a hard decision. I guess we're in two different boats but my idea is that if we aren't married she won't be getting his last name. Only mine

Use yours, then get it amended if you two marry someday. That's what I did. In the hospital baby gets named after you automatically anyway on the tags. That's what identifies him or her to you. My daughter was "Baby Whitney" I am Deb Whitney her mom, so there is no confusion as to whos baby it is. Even though my boyfriend was there the whole time, he is a Miller. Then we got married later that year and I amended it to make Whitney her middle name instead. Now she is Jade Whitney Miller. If you give the baby his last name it's going to confuse everyone that tries to match the baby to your wrist band.

Use both. You don't have to be married to do so. I personally would give my child the fathers last name even if we weren't talking because it's apart of who he is and I didnt care for my last name lol' but I do know and understand why some choose not to! It's all up to you. If I was in your situation I would use both if I knew we were going to stay to together and get married since his last name won't really change unless he become one of the first and change his instead of yours, and even then you don't have to get rid of yours once you are married. You can add on to yours.

Me and my bf have been together for 7 years in Aug. My son has his last name and our daughter will be too. It isn't custom in our family to give them the father's last name if your not married but He is still their father, supports them and works his ass off everyday to give our son and soon to be daughter everything they need. The least I can do is give them his last name. It wasnt something I just up and did we talked about it; the pros and con's of it and in the end we both decided to give them his last name.
Now in my opinion if you ended up with a man that became a dead beat or is from the beginning then no hr doesn't deserve to have his name carries on.
