Early labour for 3 days then quick delivery!

Lauren
On day 2, my contractions had been getting more intense pain wise but still too irregular to warrant leaving for the hospital, I'd been getting 'contractions/tightenings' for nearly a week by this point but they only became constant two days ago. By 12am I broke down to my partner the pain was getting too much and I felt helpless, nothing I did would get rid of it, I knew I just had to persevere through and kept thinking about the little boy id be getting at the end of it. My partner still decided to ring the hospital to see if there really wasn't anything they could do, and ofcourse there wasn't since there was no medical issue, I really did just have to push through it and l wait for them to become a few minutes apart. However, the woman on the phone said I can always come in for a check up for reassurance little ones okay and not beginning to distress and also see if I'd made any progress as I'd been in the day before and was only 2cm dilated. By 2am my partners parents had dropped us off at the hospital, by the time I got seen my contractions had spaced apart a lot, and we felt stupid for going.. Until the midwife checked me over and said I should be really proud of the progress as although I hadn't dilated further, everything else had progressed fully eg effacement etc and she bet that id be back later that day as once I'd start to dilate she said it'd happen quickly!
So we went home, the next day my partner convinced  me to take a bath, even though I knew it'd possibly slow/stall labour I was in too much pain to care, so I sat in the bath for a bit while he fell asleep in bed, I got out and decided to try and sleep despite the still constant contractions (hadn't slept properly in a week because of the pain) and for the first time I actually managed to fall asleep! Until I had a really bad burning sensation in my back and woke him to help me up as I needed the loo, and as I got up I felt a gush of fluid go across my leg and said I thought my waters had just broke, he obviously said are you sure, and we both checked noting it was clear and didn't smell so I hurried to the toilet, and already my contractions had become noticeably more intense and closer together. I waited 10 mins to call the hospital wanting to be sure, telling them they'd gone and within a minute I started contracting, I threw the phone on the bed and breathed through it gripping his hands, the woman on the phone telling us at the time to come in although we didn't hear straight away. I still had yesterday's makeup on, so me being me, I told him to ring his parents and say we'll ring again when ready so I could get dressed and do my makeup! Haha. So inbetween contractions I done it and kept calling him up to massage my back with each one. On the way there my partners mum had noted they were already 2 minutes apart, although I had to stay breathing through them even inbetween as by this point I had constant back pain/ache. Upon arriving at the hospital at 5.10pm the midwife joked where had I been and if I'd had it in the car as they had begun to worry! Within half hour I started getting the urge to push.. Not knowing what it was thought I just needed a number 2 (TMI sorry) I told the trainee midwife inbetween breathing the gas & air and she didn't click at this point, they checked baby's heartbeat and felt me over, telling me he was back to back as well as me having back labour the whole time (explaining the long early labour) so I needed to lay on my left to try and get him to move, but before I did so they examined me only to find I was fully dilated! I'd managed to atleast stick to one thing on my birth plan.. To labour as long as possible at home. Within 5 mins the other midwife had gone, and I started making noises while uncontrollably pushing, my body naturally taking over, the trainee looks over and thinks she can see his head quickly telling me to stop pushing while she goes to get the other one! Within minutes ones supporting my leg and the other directing me when to breathe through it and when to push so he doesn't come out too quickly. After 13 minutes of pushing our amazing beautiful boy is born, weighing a small 5lbs11oz Ezra James Hackett was born exactly a week early on May 3rd at 6.13pm, just 2 hours after my waters breaking. The midwives were amazed at how well I coped with the pushing and how polite and quiet I'd been throughout the whole hour of being there haha, and I wouldn't change the experience for anything I'm so grateful for our little boy, and the easy labour.. Couldn't of asked for a more amazing experience! ❤️
