How many of you first time mom's had to have an episiotomy?

I'm terrified of getting ripped.. or cut!! Ahh!!! Wanna see how many of you  already-mommas had to go through it. :/

It's actually better to have a tear than the episiotomy. I had a 2nd degree tear and I was stitched up. I didn't feel a thing. I'm all healed and my doctor says I'm at a low risk of tearing this time because it happened with my first. A 3rd or 4th degree tear is what you have to be afraid of, but those aren't common. I wouldn't suggest a csection, which is a major surgery and requires a TON more recovery than a tear does, because you're afraid of tearing.

I tore instead of an episiotomy. Why get cut if you may not need it? Baby will only tear you as far as they need to come out. My 2nd degree tear was only small and barely needed stitches.

I got an episiotomy because my daughters shoulders got stuck coming out. As soon as they cut me POP! She came out. I got stitches up and healed in like 2 weeks. I don't see what the big deal is. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I'm confused how you could compare your healing process from tearing to an episiotomy if you didn't receive one. I'm sure if I tore it would have taken the same amount of time to heal but either way it hurts to take a shit after you tear or were cut.

Unless they have to cut to get him out, I am letting myself tear naturally as natural tearing heals better.

Tell them no episotomies. That's what I did. Tears heal better & faster. (Nursing school taught me this)

I had an episiotomy with both my boys. I was honestly suprised to find out now it's not the common practice anymore. My two older kids are 17&19, so things have definitely changed some since then. My daughter is due in a couple weeks and I'm curious to see how much I'll end up tearing verses the episiotomy I'm more familiar with.

My mom had to have an episiotomy due to her seizing while having me, and she healed by the time I could go home at 6 weeks old

I had 8 stitches with my son but I  glad I tore instead of them cut me because the healing was much faster. I tore only on the inside and not the outside so the healing process wasn't as difficult as it would've been with an episiotomy.
