Ladies I need advice!

Okay so I'm having my period on my own right now(on day 3 of it actually)....which I'm happy about because I usually don't and have to have meds to get it, but it's heavy...and when I say heavy I mean HEAVY!!!! I am wearing either my softcup or the biggest tampon I can find and a overnight pad at the same time. And still having to change both every hour and a half to two hours. I have pcos and have tried everything to make things better for me with this...but this is the way it's always been for me. All my dr wants to do is put me back on birth control. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with our 1st child, so I don't want to go back on any of that. But this heavy flow is to much, I can't do anything. Is there anything better to use than the cup for it? I so wish I could just stick a tube up there with a catch bag (like a catheter, but for periods) and be able to function better. I've had a Cath before, so I can handle having it if it meant I could sleep and not have to worry about changing all the time and cleaning up messes when I do go past the time using what I use now. Somebody somewhere has got to see that some of us ladies are heavier bleeders than others and that the stuff we've been using for forever just aren't up to the challenge. It would just be nice to feel a little normal even when I have my heavy period and be like other women who don't have pcos and can still function during theirs.
