Are you a teacher/principal??

Question

Hi,
Was wondering if we have some teachers and/or principal here.
I recently earned my teaching degree and am looking for a teaching job. Would you give me suggestions and tips on what might help me get the job? I previously went to my district's fair job and met all the principals. There I handed my Resume and a teaching brochure that I made.

Was wondering if it would be fine to email them now. If so, what would I say?

First, congrats on getting your degree! That's an awesome accomplishment!

I am a teacher, and I would say networking and connecting with principals is definitely a great step. I would either email the ones your spoke with, or if you feel comfortable enough, maybe call them instead. Just introduce yourself and mention that you met with them during the career fair and that you really appreciate them taking the time to speak with you about their respective schools. I would certainly express interest in a job, and just inform them that if there is a position available this coming school year, that you would be appreciative of an interview. Be sure to sound confident, but not too cocky. You want them to want you! Friendly and professional are the keys to a great follow-up contact, via email or phone.

Congratulations on the degree! I have my associates in teaching! (I really need to go finish getting my bachelor's)

I recently got a new job and will be leaving the school I'm at right now for it. But what I had to do was just continue to check in at the school I applied at. It took a few months to finally get a straight answer that I got the job, but I would say to just keep checking on jobs and expressing your interst in them. Even if you have to sub for a bit to get your foot in the door, do it! Then they will be able to see your skills and will think to hire you when they need someone!

I was offered a teaching position after I subbed for a district. I made myself super available even with late notice ( there more than a handful of time where teachers got sick at school or even needed a sub last minute due other complications one teacher got in an accident headed to school). I got the offer just days after having my first baby. I declined since infant care is so expensive and I didn't live near any family to help. My advice is to sub, sometimes a teacher needs a long term sub and they get hired on to take their place if the teacher chooses not to go back. A few of the teachers I got to know while subbing ( I subbed often and for a lot of different schools) told me they got hired on after a year of subbing. It gave them the experience a lot of principals are looking for and you get to know the office staff and district staff that actually have a lot of pull in who gets hired. If they don't think you were a good sub they will say so.
